Lord Lurgan’s life was cut short during the dark days of the Great Famine, remembered as “Black ’47,” when he died in 1847. Yet the family’s fame endured, not least through their champion greyhound, Master McGrath, who became a household name after winning his first Waterloo Cup in 1868 and going on to secure three victories in total.
